RTS - Basic Policy
RTS (Respect The Seed) is a community built around the idea of respecting the seeders and all the good stuff that comes with that.
It's free for all members to upload whatever they want to upload!
The uploaders are always anonymous and dedicated uploaders have benefits beyond VIP status. To become a dedicated uploader you simply compete with approved uploads according to site rules (see FAQ for changes).
This site is using a sub category system that sorts the torrents to make browsing clearer. That also helps tell if the torrent is a "NoneScene" (home made, altered, etc) torrent.
All torrents have the same value no matter what category it belongs to.
Any improving ideas are welcome in the forums.

Nr.1. Basic Rules
| Maintain a ratio that suits you, and your downloading style. Read below
for more information about ratios and download slots. DON'T cheat. People that cheat are
ALWAYS banned. |

- Seeding: Either 1:1 ratio on each torrent downloaded OR for 48 hours within 2
weeks of completion. Bonus torrents, which are marked; Bronze, Silver and Gold are NOT
exempt from seeding. Read the benefits to each type below.
- You may have only one account. If there is a problem or circumstance relating to it,
you must contact Staff. Do NOT attempt to create a new account just because you have a
problem.
- You may NOT... Trade, Sell or Share your account with someone else in any way. If you
are caught or suspected of doing this, your account and IP blocks will be banned from the
site.
- Your e-mail address must be valid and is subject to verification at any time.
Creating an account here, gives Respect The Seed and its staff the authority and
permission to send you e-mail. If you do not wish to receive e-mails from our site,
you can NOT have an account here!
'Temporary' or 'Spam' blocking mail accounts are not acceptable. Accounts with
invalid e-mail address' are disabled, and subject to blacklisting of future access.
Hotmail and MSN accounts MUST have '@rtshq' added to their Safe List. E-mail address' are
never given to anyone else, and are only used for internal communication needs, and NOT
for any kind of marketing purposes.

- A Staff member may have reason to verify, freeze or ban an account at any time. You
must follow their instructions or come into IRC and discuss it with them.
- Accounts must maintain some form of normal download activity every 5 weeks, or is
subject to disabling or removal by staff or the system.
- Do NOT defy any Staff member's expressed wishes or instructions! Disobeying a Staff
member or ignoring a warning for your behaviour and/or activities will mean... you're
banned!
- Do NOT be abusive to others, and any form of inequality will be dealt with
severely.
- English is the main language to be used in IRC and on our site, however, the staff
has some ability to handle communications with users in other languages should users have
questions or need assistance in their language.
- Cheating: Is not tolerated, and takes on many forms. Hit n Run, activity to avoid
seeding, activity that modifies your statistics, use of a banned client, etc.
- By creating an account here, you agree to all of the rules and terms of the
site. The rules are updated periodically, and it is your responsibility to re-check
them.

If you're unhappy for some reason, please 'whistleblow' and staff will investigate. Be
warned that if it's found that you whistleblew because of a personal grudge you will be
instantly banned, otherwise our nice Mods may award you for helping the site and perhaps
ridding it of those we don't want as part of our community.

Torrent Group "Bonus"
This is our way of giving the users a free bonus!
These torrents don't follow any 'Scene' release rules and are exceptional to the others on this site. These torrents can be uploaded by anyone to share with the community. The person uploading the torrent receives its upload amount to boost their ratio, but it does not earn credits.

Personal Profiles/Guidelines - Top
Avatar
The allowed formats are .gif, .jpg and .png.
Be considerate. Resize your images to a width of 150 px and a size of no more than 150 KB. (Browsers will rescale them anyway: smaller images will be expanded and will not look good; larger images will just waste bandwidth and CPU cycles.) For now this is just a guideline but it may be automatically enforced if you take the ****.
Do not use potentially offensive material involving porn, religious material, animal / human cruelty or ideologically charged images.
Mods have wide discretion on what is acceptable. If in doubt PM one.
You may host your Avatar at one of the following sites:
Bitbucket,

Photobucket
Photos should NOT be hosted on your personal computers or server. First, it will be quicker to load for users viewing it, and second, it protects your anonimity! | |
Signatures
Preferably use RTS's bars
Keep them short - if they are too long, you will be asked to amend
DON'T SPAM, use other site bars etc you may be asked to amend, warned or worse!
Parking Account
ALL users that do not log-in for a period of 42 days will have their account automatically deleted by the system.
Use the "Account Parked" (Yes) option to prevent this from happening, ie. when you're on a long vacation... you lucky git!
Style Sheets
The default style for the site has been updated!
There are a few other style selections to choose from at the moment. You may also create your own theme by using the Style add-on "Manage Personal Backgrounds". An image can also be used in the theme, just use one of the image uploader links provided in the Avatar section.
Email Address
Please make sure this is a valid e-mail address. Only staff members have access to it. If there is a security breach on your account, or there is a system crash, it is the only way that we can ensure that you can be contacted, and that the account belongs to you!
We recommend that you avoid using Hotmail, due to potential delays in delivery.
A staff member may choose to validate an address at any time.

Read them! Delete the old ones, and reply!

User Information - Top
Unconnectable/Pending
Do you see a status of 'Not Connectable' in the upper left corner of the page when leeching or seeding? Are you getting and Unconnectable or Pending tracker status message?
This means that our Tracker has determined that you are Firewalled or NATed at your modem/router and cannot accept incoming connections.
This means that other peers in the swarm will be unable to connect to you, only you to them. Even worse, if two peers are both in this state they will not be able to connect at all. This has obviously a detrimental effect on the overall speed.
The way to solve the problem involves opening the ports used for incoming connections (the same range you defined in your client) on the firewall and/or configuring your NAT server to use a basic form of NAT for that range instead of NAPT (the actual process differs widely between different router models.
Check your router documentation and/or support forum. You will also find lots of information on the subject, and steps to forward your torrent client port correctly at PortForward.com.

RTS now has a connectable detector. If any user is unconnectable when leeching or seeding over 5 days (beit concurrent or over a period of time) then the user will be sent a warning that they are unconnectable and sent to a page to help them to test their connectability. If this still is the same after 10 days (another 5 days connected after the initial 5 day period, concurrent or over a period of time) the user will be limited to 1 slot.
This will mean you will only be able to have ONE live torrent at any one time. Please PM a staff member or ask for help from our FLS staff or post in the forums. If the staff fail to help you become connectable and its realised all has been tried we will remove the 1 slot limitation, otherwise it remains indefinately until you log-in in a connectable state. You MUST give us all the details necessary type of router, torrent software being used etc! (DON'T send personal details we can ask you those if needed)
If Conectable indicates Pending - it just means you are not seeding or leeching anything to or from the site! Once you begin to upload or snatch something this will change - hopefully to Yes, otherwise read above!

Hit And Run (HnR)
* NEW SEEDING RULES *
The rules have recently changed, to be more flexible to our community.
You need to seed *every* torrent (except 'Bonus' torrents) that you download until it has a ratio of 1. If there are not enough leechers to get to that ratio, you must keep seeding it for a total of 48 hours within 2 weeks of the completion. Any missed time, will have hours taken from your Spare Hours bank, and your download slots become reduced. You can replenish your spare hours, by purchasing them with credits. Credits are earned for your torrents that are left on in a seeding state, regardless of leechers.
Ok, in the real world, 'Shit happens', and sometimes that stops you from meeting the seeding requirements, through no fault of your own.
Wouldn't it be nice to have hours in the bank, so you can draw on them as you need, and pay the seeding debt with them?
Well, now you can!

Spare Hours Bank
- Every member will start with 100 Spare Hours in the bank.
- For example, if you seeded a torrent for 30 hrs (instead of 48 hrs in 2 weeks), the system will automatically try to buy off the remaining 18 hrs by taking hours from your Spare Hours bank.
- You will be able to replenish or 'top up' the number of hours in the bank by buying them.
- The maximum number of hours a member can have in the bank is 100, regardless of how many hours a member buys.
* Note: If the number of hours in your bank reaches 0 (Zero) your account will be Banned!

Reseeding
Open the torrent file, normally .tor or .torrent. When your client asks you for a location, choose the location of the existing file(s) and it will resume/reseed the torrent. Or go to snatch it again from the site and repoint the destination to the same place you saved the files and hey-presto your seeding again!
Do NOT use the Requests page for a reseed, you must use the torrent details page!
Uploading
All Uploaders Are Anonymous!
Abusing uploading rights = kickban.
If you think you can match these criteria do not hesitate to Upload
- and if you think you're good enough, please apply for a dedicated uploader position.
Who can upload?
Anyone (if not prohibited) can upload!
Dedicated Uploaders
- have VIP treatment
- have access to simultaneous multiple uploads
- have unlimited slots
- can set sub categories
- get other things they/we can think of!
UPLOADS MUST NOT CONTAIN
- Information that directs to other sources
- Information that reveals any member of any site
- Flaming, Spam or Commercials
All uploads must be releases that
- Are genuine 'Scene' releases, from recognized scene distribution groups.
- Are in multiple compressed archive format files, such as RAR.
- Include things such as: proper .NFO and .SFV files, video samples, etc.
- Have all the files in their original format - in other words untouched release
- You'll be able to seed, or make sure it is well-seeded, for at least 48 hours or that at least 3 other seeders have 100% snatched it.
- You have the speed to support the size of the file(s) you are seeding (see below)
How much bandwidth should I have to be able to upload?
- 0.0 - 0.5Mbit - APPS, EBOOK and COVERS ~50 - 100mb
- 0.5 - 1.0Mbit - MP3, MVIDS and TV ~500mb
- 1.0 - 1.9Mbit - XVID, GAMES and SVCD/VCD ~1.5GB
- 2.0 - 4.9Mbit - XBOX, PS2 ~3GB
- 5Mbit and up - DVDr And games on DVD ~ No Limit
Uploading Exceptions
- Any 'NonScene' material - i.e. Unpacked or somehow touched scene releases or homemade, self-rips, something not released by a known Scene distribution group or whatever - will be sub categorized by a moderator as NonScene.
- No rules apply to the NonScene sub category - it's free for all to upload whatever they want as long as they don't piss off staff.
- NonScene uploads still requires proper descriptions in NFO files.
-NFO files are simple txt/ASCII files saved as filename.nfo
Q - Why do you have this NonScene sub category?
- It allows you, the community to upload and share with others, regardless of the type of content.
- It provides yet another way for users to boost their ratio.
Banned Clients
We recommend using µTorrent or Azureus for Windows users, and either Azureus or Transmission for Macintosh and other *nix systems.

You get credits for continuing to upload the snatched torrent, known as seeding, the bigger the torrent and longer you seed, the more credits you will get.
Most say whats the point there is no one downloading, known as leechers - it doesn't matter if there are leechers or not, you will earn credits either way! Its time and size related

Bonus Leech
Bonus Leech is applicable when the torrent name is green in color. There are 3 different types of free leech.
Bronze Leech
You get double upload amount
Silver Leech
Only the upload is counted while overall download stats are disregarded (Your overall ratio will not lower after the download). You also earn double amount of the credits when seeding the torrent.
Golden Leech
You get double upload amount and also overall download stats are disregarded (Your overall ratio will not lower after a download).
When and how these settings goes online depends on the mood of the staff!
Ratio
Click on your profile, then on your user name (at the top).
It's important to distinguish between your Overall Ratio and the individual ratio on each torrent
you may be seeding or leeching. The overall ratio takes into account the total uploaded and downloaded from your account since you joined the site. The individual ratio takes into account those values for each torrent.
** Changes **
You are now NOT required to keep a specific Overall Ratio amount, and cannot be banned for not maintaining a specific overall ratio. You may maintain any Overall Ratio that you wish, however, the number of slots available to you is affected by this ratio. Read the section on Slots below, for additional information.
Multiple IPs
Yes, the tracker is capable of following sessions from different IPs for the same user. A torrent is associated with the user when it starts, and only at that moment is the IP relevant. So if you want to seed/leech from say computer A and computer B with the same account you should access the site from computer A, start the torrent there, and then repeat both steps from computer B (this isn't limited to two computers or to a single torrent on each, it's just the simplest way to explain). You do not need to login again when closing the torrent.

Do we need to say anymore?
Slots
Slots are the amount of torrents you can have active at anyone time. Both seeding and leeching torrents are considered as active torrents.
Example: Used / Max Slots: 5 / 10 (8)
5 means used slots,10 means Max slots you are allowed,8 means number of leeching slots allowed.
New Users:
- Until a new user downloads 10 Gb (not including the 2Gb you started with) you will have 3 slots.
- After the first 10 Gb, you will follow the Slot and Ratio table below.
This table shows what number of slots are available to users who have downloaded 10Gb or more, and are dependant on your Overall Ratio:

Remember after 30 days of submission, requests are cleared by system and those with a request limit can make another.
Do NOT use the Requests page for a reseed, you must use the torrent details page!
Invites - Information about our Invite Reward System
Every user is initially given 4 invites.
If you invite a user who downloads more than 10 GB and has a ratio of at least 1.0 you will get rewarded 2500 in credits for bringing such a valuable user to this site!
If you have used all your invites and you think you deserve more ask a staff member politely ;)
Warnings
Unfortunately sometimes rules are broken and warnings are issued.
Automatic warnings by the system may be sent to you if your account is in danger of being banned, such as exhausing your Spare Hours bank.
Warnings may be issued by a Staff member at anytime they deem necessary.

What if I can't find the answer to my problem here? - Top
You can try these:
Post in the Forums, by all means. You'll find they
are usually a friendly and helpful place,
provided you follow a few basic guidelines:
- Make sure your problem is not really in this FAQ. There's no point in posting just to be sent
back here.
- Before posting read the sticky topics (the ones at the top). Many times new information that
still hasn't been incorporated in the FAQ can be found there.
- Help us in helping you. Do not just say "it doesn't work!". Provide details so that we don't
have to guess or waste time asking. What client do you use? What's your OS? What's your network setup? What's the exact
error message you get, if any? What are the torrents you are having problems with? The more
you tell the easiest it will be for us, and the more probable your post will get a reply.
- And needless to say: be polite. Demanding help rarely works, asking for it usually does
the trick.
- IRC is always a good place for questions .. just press on the IRC link on top of site to get help.
